CSA PrefaceThis is the first edition of CAN/CSA-C22.2 No. 60079-0, Electrical apparatus for explosive gas atmospheres - Part 0: General requirements, which is an adoption, with Canadian deviations, of the identically titled CEI/IEC (Commission lectrotechnique Internationale/International Electrotechnical Commission) Standard 60079-0 (fourth edition, 2004-01). It replaces the identically titled CAN/CSA-E60079-0:02 (adopted CEI/IEC 60079-0:1998+A1:2000).
1 Scope
This part of IEC 60079 specifies the general requirements for construction, testing and marking of electrical apparatus and Ex components intended for use in explosive gas atmospheres.
Unless modified by one of the parts in the IEC 60079 series, electrical apparatus complying with this standard is intended for use in hazardous areas in which explosive gas atmospheres, caused by mixtures of air and gases, vapours or mists, exist under normal atmospheric conditions of
- temperature -20 C to +60 C;
- pressure 80 kPa (0,8 bar) to 110 kPa (1,1 bar); and
- air with normal oxygen content, typically 21 % v/v.
The application of electrical apparatus in atmospheric conditions outside this range may need special consideration.

Ce document constitue la premire dition de la CAN/CSA-C22.2 n : 60079-0, Matriel lectrique pour atmosphres explosives gazeuses - Partie 0 : Rgles gnrales. Il s'agit de l'adoption, avec exigences propres au Canada, de la norme CEI/IEC (Commission lectrotechnique Internationale/International Electrotechnical Commission) 60079-0 (quatrime dition, 2004-01) qui porte le mme titre. Cette norme remplace la CAN/CSA-E60079-0:02 (norme CEI/IEC 60079-0:1998+A1:2000 adopte) qui portait le mme titre.
1 Domaine d'application
La prsente partie de la CEI 60079 spcifie les exigences gnrales de construction, d'essais et de marquage du matriel lectrique et des composants Ex destins tre utiliss dans des atmosphres explosives gazeuses.
Sauf indication contraire dans l'une des autres parties de la prsente srie de la CEI 60079, le matriel lectrique conforme la prsente norme est prvu pour tre utilis dans des emplacements dangereux, dans lesquels les atmosphres explosives gazeuses, provoques par des mlanges d'air et de gaz, vapeurs ou brouillards, existent dans des conditions atmosphriques normales de:
- temprature -20 C +60 C;
- pression 80 kPa (0,8 bar) 110 kPa (1,1 bar); et
- air avec teneur normale en oxygne, gnralement 21 % v/v.
L'utilisation de matriels lectriques dans des conditions atmosphriques hors de cette gamme peut ncessiter une certification particulire.
