1.1 These requirements cover commercial refrigerators and freezersintended for connection to alternating-current circuits rated not greaterthan 600 volts.

1.2 These requirements apply to unitary and remote commercialrefrigerators and freezers. For the purposes of this standard,commercial refrigerators and freezers include equipment, such asdisplay cases, reach-in cabinets, meat cases, frozen food andmerchandising cabinets, beverage coolers, beveragecooler-dispensers, food service carts, ice cream cabinets, sodafountain units, and door panel assemblies.

1.3 Self-contained commercial refrigerators and freezers covered bythese requirements employ hermetic refrigerant motor-compressorsand air- and water-cooled condensers.

1.4 These requirements do not apply to refrigeration system such asthose used in cold-storage rooms, walk-in coolers, and the like, thatare fabricated in the field.

1.5 Requirements for the installation of commercial refrigerators andfreezers are included in the National Electrical Code, NFPA 70, and theSafety Code for Mechanical Refrigeration, ASHRAE 15.
