These requirements cover garage equipment rated not more than 600 volts for use in accordance with the National Electrical Code, NFPA 70.

These requirements cover equipment used in servicing and repairing automobiles, such as dynamometers, brake lathes, distributor testers, drivewaysignals, engine analyzers, exhaust emission testers, generator-alternator-regulator testers, growlers, ignition testers, rectifier diode testers, timing lights,fluid-changing equipment, tire changers, tune-up testers, wheel alignment and balance equipment, and other similar equipment primarily for use ingarages and service stations.

Garage equipment intended for use in Class I, Division 1, and Class I, Division 2 Hazardous Locations as defined in the National Electrical Code,NFPA 70 is investigated under these requirements and, in addition, is investigated with respect to its acceptability for the particular application.

This standard covers the electrical requirements for automotive lifts. The other requirements for automotive lifts (including mechanical and markingrequirements) are included in ANSI/ALI ALCTV-1998, the Standard for Automotive Lifts - Safety Requirements for the Construction, Testing and Validation.

This standard covers the electrical requirements for portable automotive lifting devices. The other requirements for portable automotive liftingdevices (including mechanical and marking requirements) are included in ANSI/ASME PALD-1997, the Standard for Portable Automotive Lifting Devices.

These requirements do not cover arc-welders, automotive battery chargers, battery testers, electric automotive tools, vacuum cleaners, equipmentusing refrigerants, or other equipment that is covered by individual requirements.
