Industrial Battery Chargersstandard by Underwriters Laboratories, 01/01/1993
These requirements cover indoor battery chargers rated 600 volts or less. They are intended to be used in accordance with the National Electrical Code, NFPA 70,to charge industrial storage batteries which are used to provide power for material handling trucks, tractors, personnel carriers, and similar motive equipment. Thesechargers may be either cord and plug connected or permanently connected.
A battery charger that is not a complete assembly and depends upon installation in an end product for compliance with the requirements in this standard isinvestigated under the requirements of this standard and the standard for the end product.
These requirements do not cover:
1.Battery chargers for use in a marina, boatyard, or other marine application;
2.Battery chargers for fire protection signaling service;
3.Household battery chargers;
4.Automotive battery chargers;
5.Battery chargers for use with an internal combustion engine driving a centrifugal fire pump; or,
6.Appliances or systems in which a battery charger is used.
A product that contains features, characteristics, components, materials, or systems new or different from those covered by the requirements in this standard, and thatinvolves a risk of fire or of electric shock or injury to persons shall be evaluated using appropriate additional component and end-product requirements to maintainthe level of safety as originally anticipated by the intent of this standard. A product whose features, characteristics, components, materials, or systems conflict withspecific requirements or provisions of this standard does not comply with this standard. Revision of requirements shall be proposed and adopted in conformance withthe methods employed for development, revision, and implementation of this standard.
